Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri 2008, New York Edition
In case you were wondering...Gambero Rosso will hold its annual scratch my back and I'll scratch yours festa in our fair city.
When: Monday, March 3. The press get to enter about 1 PM, the trade at 2, the great unwashed at 3. Where: Puck Building, 295 Lafayette Street, corner of Houston.
Tre Bicchieri New York Update
What: Tasting of all the Tre Bicchieri (three glasses) honorees according to Gambero Rosso.
Who: Everyone and his brother. The wines keep getting so much better every year, see.

so what if some see the tre bicchieri selection as a mutual bolstering of wineries and Gambero Rosso. The wines selected are terrific and - given that the guide Vini d'Italia lists almost 15,000 wines - the 300+ three glasses wines only represent a very small fraction (2%). All regions of Italy are making better wines and one of the good things of the awards is to recognize that trend. Are some selections controversial and debatable? Certainly, that is always the case in matters of taste. I, for one, have found the guide very useful, not as an absolute arbiter of what is good wine, but as a a sign post to different wines and regions of Italy.
