Delirium, Naples

I can't write about yesterday's tasting of nine Greco di Tufo.

I'm suffering from a sort of delirium here in Naples.

After a good morning and early afternoon at Vitignoitalia, we came back to the hotel at the Lungomare, which smelled of the sea and its crashing waves.  We went to lunch (indoors, air conditioned, another day at nearly 100 degrees Fahrenheit), and we ate and drank ourselves silly with frutti di mare, pasta, fish (spigola, I don't know the English translation but it was whole and fresh and better than good), Biancolella from the island of Ischia and a large quantity of limoncello and crema di melone after a typically great Neapolitan espresso.

We were feeling no pain.

Now, of course, we are.

La vita e' bella.

Tomorrow morning a train to Rome and a plane to NYC.  You know what that means, right?  A turkey sandwich and potato salad for a return dinner.  Ah home sweet home.

Meanwhile, our Naples delirium continueth.  Some pizza tonight and some good draft Nastro Azzurro beer. Strolling around and smelling the sea.  Feeling the coolish sea breeze.    Dolce far almost niente.  You could get used to this.  I take back what I said about Napoli two years ago, mostly.  It's not a "third world shithole."  It's like New York in the 1970s and 1980s -- rundown and garbagey, but still itself and very much alive.  Si, mi piace.  It's a nice place to visit...

Ciao, amici.

Terry

spigola is a synonym of branzino. Sea bass.

It looked like a bass. I never remember the translations for fish. Or trees. Or birds. Thanks, Mike.

Ah! Dopo due anni ti piace Napoli? Di questo passo ti piacerà anche Merano... ;-)

Magari, ragazzo mio. Non mi piace lo speck.
