Wine moments, briefly

I've been very busy the past few days, no time to sit and write.  Or even to think about it much.  Here are a few scenes from the jumble of my brain.

Inoteca_3

At 'inoteca on Rivington Street yesterday with the lovely and talented Robin Stark, in from San Diego for a shot of urban energy.  We traded anecdotes about The Rudest Man in Italian Wine, who texts all through meals, ignoring everyone and everything, and who has been known to paw at least one girl at a time while his significant other was sitting at table.

Speaking of San Diego, Robin and I lamented the absence of Jeremy Parzen from our table and this fair city.  Jeremy is out there recovering his adolescence.  Get back here at once, sir.

I drank a glass of Coenobium.  Robin had something red (!) and then we shared one glass of Refosco.  Robin organizes wine/food bike tours in various parts of Italy, the kind where people flop in 4-5 star hotels at night.  Sicily is up next (October).  Click here for more info.

I owe Franco Ziliani something about Brunello.  I'm late, will try to complete it today.  Mi spiace, Franco.

Gabrio Tosti told me business was decent.  He told me I was bitching when I wasn't.  He was projecting.

An epiphanous moment: we drank the end of a bottle of Luigi Reale's Aliseo white wine, then Ken had a glass of Babich Sauvignon Blanc, a favorite of his.  And he said -- he said -- "This is good for what it is but it's clearly a mass-produced, industrial wine with no depth or subtlety."  I was kvelling with pride.
