...and the inventories ever longer.
Yesterday on the Wine & Spirits Daily blog we saw the announcement of the merger of Southern and Glazers, two major wine and spirits distributors in the US. They will now form one behemoth -- the largest distribution company in the country -- with thousands of wine labels needing attention from an army of salespeople. You have to wonder how the smaller wineries will fare with even more competition for the time and energy of the sales force.
Consolidation always takes place in times of fear and scarcity.

I'm wondering....

Sounds like good news for someone like you, Strappo. Increased consolidation just means that the niche filled by working with smaller farms will continue to grow.

don't have much dealings with Southern, for obvious reasons, but Glazer, at least in the midwest, are the scum-bags of the wine industry. I can only imagine it will get nothing but worse.
Long live the little guys!!!!!!

Johnny boy, it's nice to have another Hughes popping off on this esteemed blog.
Watch out though, some of my best frenemies work for Glazer's. They're like mad wounded elephants these days.
